Ah, probably the only race car sponsored by a penis enlargement clinic.
Same year as this in my case.

The most iconic rally car of all time was unveiled shortly after I was born.

Lotus Esprit V8 GT1. Took a car with aggressive proportions (low, wide, etc.) and proceeded to lower it and give it Demon-style fender flares.
I need one of these for my commute.

That car is fantastic. The esprit is such an underappreciated car. Just means I should be able to get one pretty easily down the road.
I wonder what they used for a gearbox
Edit: Hewland sequential. Wonder if the aftermarket solved the problem of the factory gearbox yet

Longitudinal mid-engine makes me want to get a built subaru STI transaxle (less the AWD output) and install it backwards. Should be able to handle the V8 at full output.

I guess some have managed to fit an upside down g50. Another person used an Audi box, but there’s was an older S3 and fitted with an Audi v8.
I wouldn't mind an early x80 with a Subaru box or whatever works

And a homoligation special that neared Group B levels of nuts.

The Impreza was tame as far as Homologation cars went. Getting it homologated basically amounted to selling the Impreza with a turbo. The homologation car for the Group A and WRC Imprezas were the standard WRX/STI, not the legendary 22b. The 22b was a special edition celebrating 10 years of the STI division.
The Delta Integrale and Escort RS Cosworth were far more extreme examples of homolgation specials. The Integrale was so far removed from the standard Delta and the Cossie was a half Sierra, half Escort Frankenstein’s monster of a car.

The 22B was what I was referring to. That thing was basically Subaru’s first and only “supercar” with the numbers it was throwing down.
